Default Windshield scratches

Hey guys, has this happened to anyone here? I woke up this morning and there was some frost on the windshield. I scrape it off - gently (!) & there are no nicks on the scraper either - and on my way to work I notice some scratches on my windshield. Is there some kind of coating on the 'sheild, or is just that cheap? Anyway, I'm probably going to get some kind of scratch repair kit. Anybody else ever have this problem? Are those things bad for the car? I know I only see the scratches when I'm driving into sunlight, but they still bother me. I go out and buy this expensive snobroom thing just to keep from scratching the paint and then this happens...

The scratches aren't too bad. It's just that I've only had my car for almost 2 weeks and so far I've had 2 chips in my door from my friend & dad hitting the curb with it, the heater motor went (replaced by Ford under warranty), my brakes making noise and having to go back to the shop just to find out that they didn't hear anything (I then brought it back after showing the salesman who sold me the car and they replaced the brake pads - turns out they never checked them in the first place...they admitted it because they didn't have the key to the wheel locks when I brought it back), the sound place knocked out my antennae when they hooked up my ipod so I had to bring it back and now I have an annoying scratch right in front of me when I'm driving into the sunlight. It's been a rough week, but it's still been worth it! Hopefully next week will be better.

Sorry for the vent...

Honestly, I never use any kind of scraper on my vehicles' windows....if I know its gonna be frozen over, I make time to get out there and get the car warmed up enough to let the defroster work.....that is what works for me.

yah i dont scrap either i just let teh car warm up...my "new" mustang is in teh shop today AGAIN because the parking break keeps not releasing and hence the car wont move...last time they tried to charge me for it to fix it and i gave em hell and they didnt charge me...they better not try that b.s today...and i hate ford dealers..i told them to call by 10am since the appointment was supposed to be done at 815am..it is now quater past 11am and no call...this is why i hate ford dealers and tehy are all losing their jobs cause they dont know how to run a business properly or build cars right..

yeah, I'm never going to use the scaper again. It was doing a pretty good job and I was just trying to get the left overs because I was going to be late for work.

I did a search on google and some people with other cars mentioned using toothpaste. The scratches aren't deep at all, so hopefully that will work. If not, I'll either leave it or take it to a glass shop to get it checked out. I just don't want the scratches to mess up the rest of the windshield when I use my wipers or anything like that.

You try just to buff them out? Im thinking its something coming from the scraper, and not actual windshield damage

I am from Phoenix Arizona whats an ice scraper ? It hasn't rained here in a 100 days !!!
I am just kidding, originally from Royal Oak Michigan. Haven't been back since 1972.
If I want snow I can drive three hours north to Flagstaff Arizona.

Plastic scraper or metal? I lived up north many years and always used a plastic scraper without a problem. I would guess you had something hard frozen on the windshield you couldnt see. As long as its not a metal scraper you should be safe. Most likely a case of bad luck.

That sucks. Is there a way to get the scratches out?

I have a FREAKIN' pit in the middle of my windshield because some rock got kicked up on the freeway.
