Default Screaming Yellow - Good Choice?

I may have the opportunity to pick up a Screaming Yellow GT 5spd (GT 5spds are tough to come by in my area). A few friends' opinions are: 1. Simply don't like that color, 2. Hard to keep clean, and 3. Will get unwanted attention from cops (and possibly thieves). I personally like the yellow, but even I'm concerned that I might get sick of such an 'outgoing' color after a while. Any opinions on the matter (especially those who have this color)?

With that color, you will certainly get attention. It seems to attract dirt but is much easier to maintain than black and the occasional scratch is easier to deal with. In the warm weather you will discover that every flying insect wants to marry your car (or at least try to screw it, youll see) I happen to have that color myself and do not regret it one bit. I also recently had black shelby stripes added, and now the police and really pay attention. Like every color, you need it to fit you. You need to say, yeah I can still drive that in a few years from now. Under the skin, it is all the same car (group hug).

I owned a canary yellow 95 GT convertible for 5 years. It was a bright colour and I have nothing but good to say about it. I have owned red, black, silver, & white vehicles and the yellow was not harder to keep clean than others nor did it attract a higher amount of unwanted attention.

Screaming yellow is a hot colour and one that your do not see every day....go for it!

My wifes '06 Pony is screaming yellow. It's 1000% easier to take care of than Black, I have the Black one and I regret it.

I'm 59 [:@] this year, I have a Screaming Yellow GT. 5-Speed, The only color that "spoke" to me. I love to hear it accelerate! I live in the SF Bay Area and enjoy the back roads. I have total respect for the CHP, I don't think they need to see the color, just see the infractions. On the highways I use Cruise Control and 72 MPH. In the mountains and back roads I use all three petals a lot, heavily, quickly....

Insects think the car is a flower. I means standing still, and parked. I think their little feet get sore on landing...

I use Meguiars NXt Generation products including the Detail-er. Don't need to wash it that often. I use it pretty quick after each drive on the front end. Keep a bottle and terry clothes in the trunk for emergency cleanups.

What I can't figure out is the black haze that keeps appearing on the lower rear quarter panels and rear of car. [:@] Any idea what it is? The Meguiar's takes it right off, but it does dirty up a terry cloth rag right quick!

That black stuff is more than likely brake pad dust from the rear disc brakes.

My back two wheels get dirtier than the front two from brake pad dust.

Usually it is the front wheels that get dirty from brake pad dust.

Hope this helps.

MikeVistaBlue06: I think you missed his "black haze" joke. I'm sure he's referring to burnout residue. (lol).

I love the yellow, it's a warm (hot) bright yellow. This color is way easy to take care of. Don't worry about attention. I would get the mirrors done, and get rear lowering springs in, the first week you have the car. One of my top choices before I had decided black with classic flames. ...talk about attention, but who cares; it's about what YOU want/like.

I would not have thought any stripes would look good on the yellow JMO. ...but when I saw the one with silver stripes out here on the forum... well that is "striking" and unique; go take a look.

I also have a Screaming Yellow GT. I love the color, and it was the only color that I would consider for my car. But everyone else is right, is does gets the attention of both people and insects. I find that dirt does show up more on yellow than on silver, but other than that, it is very easy to take care of.

Thanks for thought Mike, but, I beg to differ! Swear, my wheels, front and rear DO NOT get dirty! My Yamaha FJR, My GMC PU, both have wheels that get ugly/dirty looking, but the GT, no dirty on the wheels front or rear! The back wheel on the FJR doesn't get dirty, the front pads are aftermarket, the stocker pads were pricey.

That Black haze has got to be something else! Stuff is even up on the back end around the bumber, the plate, the and the surround environs. [:@]
