Default Convertible with Leaking Trunk

I'm curious if any of you convertible owners out there (I have an early '05) have experienced water leaks in the back trunk? Apparently there's a known issue where the welds were defective or non-existent in the bucket the top fits into. I just discovered this two weeks ago after a heavy downpour.

The top had to be removed, seams rewelded, and top replaced. Car was out for a week. I had some rust damage in the spare tire well where water laid stagnant for a while. The dealer had to fix that also.

It's worth a check for any of you.

Thanks for the info! I haven't noticed any, but I will remember to check it frequently now.

All you need to do is heavily hose down your back window near the body. Then wait short time and pull up the trunk mat and take look. Odds are if you haven't seen it yet, and you car has been in some heavy downpours, you're OK.

I guess I'm a lucky one... haven't noticed any trunk leakage.

It leaks! My '06 GT vert that I've had a month had about 1/2 gallon on the driver's side of the trunk - in the well that the elec. cable runs through. It'll be going back to the dealer ASAP before it rusts. Is this going to be a recall candidate issue?

I don't see any sign on leaks right now, but thanks for the tip. I will definately be keeping an eye out.

Dont know because I've never checked the trunk. Will next time I wash it. Mine was built in June 05, how about those having issues? It seems the first 6 months or so of builds have a lot of issues the later ones dont have. I have seen this before with my Sport Trac. Got one of the first one made with all sorts of issues, and they basically fixed them all for the 2nd half of the year.

I have a similar issue (water in the driver's side of the trunk and under the back seats) and the dealer can't find the problem.
Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
O

My service manager suspected the problem with the weld seam in the trunk. They will have to take off your top (just the vinyl, not the whole frame) to inspect. Then Ford's field engineers wanted to take a look to review and approve the welding of the carbody. What a pain, but it's fixed now. Good luck.
