Went to the dealer today and have an appointment to drop the car off on Tuesday. They told me it was something common they have seen. Also said it is covered under warranty. They will only have it a couple of days.

This is a VERY common issue with all S197 Mustangs with Aluminum hoods. The E-coating wasn't applied properly and allows the aluminum to oxidize where the outer skin of the hood and inner structure meet. I worked at a Ford dealer for about a year, and I bet I saw at least 30 come in with that problem. Ford isn't helping people that are out of warranty either. So be aware of that. It's about an $800-$1000 fix out of pocket.

My thoughts exactly.....

I was just denied coverage under warranty to get this fixed. Unfortunately I drive 35 miles one way to work and I didn't notice the issue until 49K miles. Even though the car is 3 years old (two model years) I have 4 more years of payments for a car has an obvious production flaw.

Ford is supposed to have a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty on the body against corrosion or rust. I'd contest that with them or visit another dealership. They should fix this for you under warranty.
