Water Pump Blues

Water Pump Blues
Bought a new 2014 V6 performance package for my wife. With 25000 miles water pump leaked and was replaced under warranty. Did not think much about it as more than a fluke. I like the way the V6 runs so this past summer bought a used 2014 V6 convertible with 40000 miles on it for me. Low and behold the water pump started leaking this weekend with less than 45000 miles on it. Will be fixed under warranty. Something is wrong here to the point I may put in a plan to start getting rid of these two cars. No doubt the 3.7 runs well but after over 100 years of car making a water pump cannot be rocket science. In my younger days I would not have problems bending over the radiator changing the water pump on a car with 150000 miles. In my mid 60"s I am not going to do it every 25000 miles.

Looks like there is a known issue with them and a TSB to resolve it if it's related.

Check for the check valve between the coolant reservoir and the thermostat housing. If it's not there, have Ford update the part for you. If it is, then I don't know.

Here is a Thread I started on another Mustang Forum. Be sure add the hose with a check valve. $20 something dollars, it keeps air from being sucked in that makes the bearings in the water pump overheat

Thanks deeFOO for the Tecnical Bullitin update. Yes my first 2014 into the shop did get the hose with the valve put on it. Also the dealer today is installing the new hose with the new water pump. I still have a hard time believing air into the cooling system makes the water pump bearing run hot causing early failure. But i guess I will see. It appears that Ford is fixing the cars that come in with less the 60000 miles on them with the problem under warranty,
