With the power range you are looking for a DART block is overkill. Be careful when buying a stroker kit. Do not buy anything that is made by CAT. The rods and cranks suck. Buy H-beam rods and a forged pistons. Make sure the pistons are flycut for your heads. For what you are doing find a 94-96 Roller capable block. You can find them in 94-95 F150s or I believe 96 F-250's. Alot of Ford vans came with them. When deciding on what heads to go with do your homework. If you plan on going N/A then don't look for the head with the largest ports. Also, if you go cheap on parts you get what you pay for. You can find deals on good parts from time to time though. CNC motorsports has good deals on overstock stroker kits pretty often and they are good quality kits.

I thought Dart blocks where susposed to be awsome?
What's a good strong block that can handle 400-450 N/A power then in the future slap a turbo on?

The DART blocks are great but, for the application and power level the stock block will handle up to 600 hp. IF you plan on adding a turbo to your set-up later you will more than likely have to go in the motor and change a few things. Now, ifyou plan on going with a turbo later then a DART block would be a good idea.

Well.... This is what I'm thinking

Buy the DART block
Bore it out to a 408
Put a 408 street/strip applicated stroker
Nice heads/cam/intake, and all to acheive 450N/A HP.
Buy a turbo later on (within 5 months of the 450N/A hp) and run it at low Boost (5psi on the street) till I take 'er out to the track and jack it up.

But, if it can't handle 450n/a Horsepower, how will it handle the Turbo ontop of the 450 n/a

your adding more C.I. , thats more power by itself
depends on what cam, pistons, heads, and alot of other things too how much power you will have
my 408 runs off of 93 octane fine, but i dont have dome tops or anything
i built mine from a 89 windsor block out of a f250
i thought it was gonna be a roller block, but it wasnt
you can get a roller conversion kit for about 60 bucks, if your block is a flat tappet motor . just drill the holes in the right spot
and dont drill all the way through the cam bearings lol
if your just going to drive it on the street, and sometimes take it to the track, but not turn it over 6grand
I-Beam rods will be just fine, and when your using I-beam rods you dont have to notch the block for clearance
if its going to be a race car and thats it, i would put better rods in it, like H-beams
but you will have to notch the block,H-Beams are alot beefier
anyways.. goodluck

A 351W block can handle 600hp easy. I have seen them go waaay beyond that.... but reliable? NO. When you were asking about flat top pistons, etc. etc. etc. it depends on what your running. Also, you better know for sure if you are going to turbo it because you cant take a 10.1 comp na motor and just think you can throw a turbo on it and everything will be kosher. Also, 185's on a 408 would sucks *****. 205's would be more in your area... even 225's if you want to get real crazy for a strictly track application. Have you ever driven in a 5.0 with 500hp? I dont think you are going to need to turbo a 408W... trust me.

I've BEEN in a fox with 500hp, it pulled good. I havn't been behind the wheel of a 500hp fox though.

Ok, well I'll ditch the turbo Idea then.

Can you ball park HP at the wheel numbers on these:

351w with a 408 stroker kit, afr205's, mid-to good cam, dual 400cfm carbs, and mid-to good everything else.
^ same thing, but no 408 stroker kit, just the block with everything else mentioned.... Might not need the dual 400cfm's w/out the stroker. But it'll still be carbed...No fuel injection here

Pimp factor

I'm asking

What numbers should I expect with a

408 stroker with afr205's, mid-to good everything else.
Vs.
351w (not stroked) with afr205's, mid-to good everything else.

Someone else will have to address "stock" 351w numbers... as for the stroked...
check out my sig...
