351w efi intakes
I have started woring on my 351w and am still debating on which intake to choose from. Alot seem to choose the trickflow and from researching I seem to find very few 351w efi intakes that run below 3500rpm. I am building a street machine but I want it to go also. Any intakes that yoou know of please list so I can check them out. I am lost. Looking for something that starts in a range of 1500rpm...or maybe I am just thinking wroong or looking in the wrong places. One intake I have seen (cant rember which one...looked at so many)looks like it takes a carbed maniford but has bosses for injectors then puts an elbow on the top for a throttle body. Never seen one of those before. Is that normal for this use? I am looking for the best and most reasonable priced (oxymoron right there)intake for a 351/408 (pulling engine apart to see condition. if bad Ill do 408 or 393. If its in good shape ill just stay with 351 until I get more time)
Im confused. Im used to working with motorcycles, atvs, and such.
Thanks all

RE: 351w efi intakes
I cant really help you, Ive also been researching different intakes but I think the one that you described with the elbow and ect is the CHP Spyder intake http://www.coasthigh.com/Fuel%20Injection/spyder.htm

ok, low end throttle response like you want has more to do with cam than intake.
If you have a cam that is not custom made to exact engine specs a long
runner EFI intake will help cover it up a little.
If you get a custom cam your intake choice will not matter as much
or better yet you can match the two.
I have the Trickflow R on my 357ci, it works GREAT on a 351, rated 1,500-6,500
There is also the Coast High Spyder, which is nothing but a VicJr. or Super Victor with injector holes.
Edlebrock is now also offering those same intakes in EFI form.
A VicJr. intake with good custom cam would be nasty
Seems like a lot of aftermarket places are now making box uppers for the TFS-R lower now too.
Anderson Motorsports has an awsome "Mondo Box Upper" for TFS-R lower.
I would go for the TFS-R intake if you want that classic 5.0 long runner EFI intake look.

RE: 351w efi intakes
saw your post on the efi deal.
can you give me a run down on what it would take to go efi with my setup? i've got a 408 from a 351w platform. all edelbrock stuff with eagle internals. my compression is at 10:1
i've got a 600 cfm edelbrock performer series. just wonder how much i'm losing due to carb size.
it is a daily/fun driver, but i hate to give up a great deal of HP due to small carb size.
also, think if i did a swap from efi based car i'd be able to do a great deal more tuning via laptop. however, dont want to get in over my head.
as always-wanting more HP.
thanks for your help.

Carb will make more power than EFI do to less restrictions.
EFI is nice cause you can tune it and forget it.
No changing jets everytime the temp changes from winter to summer.
Check Anderson Motor sports "Mondo" box upper with TFS R lower for 5.8L
about to put that box upper on mine.
also check out AEM's engine computer for Mustang 5.0
my tuner swears by them. installing one right now myself.

RE: 351w efi intakes
Great post! I have that same exact question, and hope I am not hijacking ROBLARSS's post.
I am thinking of the TFS R also, but am open to other suggestions as recommended above. Iam curious about the difference between the TFS R vs. the TFS Box R. Is the Box R too much for a stroked 351W (408)? Do either allow use of the EGR Plate?
I am looking to build a streetable 408 that is EFI and looking for a respectable500 rwhp. I will be re-using my TFS TW heads from my current combo.
Thanks for any comments or advice.

RE: 351w efi intakes
regular R upper will choke a 408 at high rpms. get a box upper.
Long runner EFI uppers are nice cause they create a strong "intake pulse"
that continues shoving air in, even after intake valve is closed.
This gives you strong throttle response and helps mask half *** cam choices.
500 to the wheels will be tuff for a 408 to do
They usually make about 420-430 to the wheels or a little over 500+ at the flywheel.
It can be done but you will need to match heads and cam
and power band perfectly and probably push 7,000+ rpm
Forget trying to get that power out of some TW's unless you
have them professionally stage 3 ported.
Anderson recently did a High Rev 347 in an artcl and only 450rwhp
spinning close to 8,000 rpm.
