Default need suggestions!

Ok heres the deal..
Ive got a 90 mustang with a 302 and running 13.2s and its getting old and as im sure you all know how it is... i want to build a new motor for more horsepower. I want to build a 351 w to make around 500 to 550hp ( so basically low 11s on motor). im about to graduate high school so i dont have a crap ton of money so this will be a budget car but i am willing to build it over time because i want to build this right.im currently building the suspension first because i no thats the most important.. any suggestions on what too put in the 351 for a good price?

Well you can stroke it or just leave it a 351 or 358(.030), get a good set of aluminum heads, a nice big lift cam and a mean as intake and carb.
But to get that 550 hp range you will want to probably stroke it out to at least a 383 but you might as well go 408.
A 550hp motor without nitrous isn't really gonna be a budget motor bc the heads,, stroker kit and machine work isn't gonna be cheap.

agreed........

low budget is not really the best when talking about 500 plus. best budget to get near 11s freshen up your 302 (306) forged internals...kit from summit about 475. Holley Systemax Kit...2500ish 4:10's 200ish that will blow your mind if your used to a 13.5 car. then when that isnt enough you will have the foundation to spray the shiznit out of it and run into the mid 10's????

a healthy 351 with a decent h/c/i and a decent shot will get u into the 10's no problem if car and motor are setup correctly..

im bulding a 351 w now with trickflow heads,airgap,750 dp lt's,t5 and i will go 11's or ill burn it and then a 150 shot on that should break the 10,99 barrier...

well that was my first idea to build a 347 stroker but when i started comparing prices and stuff it turns out the 351w would be cheaper or atleast to what im looking at thats why i was looking for suggestions of what parts to look for and what works the best.. plus you cant beat cubic inches... i have driven a low 11 second car and yes it is a crap load faster then what i expected but i loved the feeling of running a 11.5 (even though the car usually runs 11.2s)

I'm not sure why it would be cheaper to go 351 even though I have 351 blocks to sell. You can use your current block for a 347 right? There are plenty of people in the 11s using 302s, some even with 306's. Build a balanced package including suspension and there is no reason not to be low 11s or better NA. You will need HCI for whatever motor you build. If it has to be a 351 you could run a stock lower end with a good top end and probably run 11s. I would recommend you use good bolts throughout the build even if you use stock rods. If possible better pistons on the stock crank and rods would be ideal for a low budget build that will last a while. Hope my ramble helped,

Matt

I agree 351 will work...see my sig... BUT the heads cam etc to let a 351 breath will still caost about as much.. and your still gonna have to forge and spray it to get to 500 unless your stroke the 351....

There is currently a 408 in works in my garage

I agree that u will have to spray/ force induction to get 351 to make over 475 hp. I currantly run 392 stroker w/ afr 205 hds. trickflow int. 42lb. inj. makes 420 rwhp on mtr. 510 rwhp w/ 125 shot of juice.
