Default budget 351?

So im pretty sure the bottom end in my 302 is done.

I just had a kiddo on july 30th, and funds are VERY short.

looking to pick up a 351 and have it honed/ new rings/ bearings, and such, but nothing to crazy.

want to use my same heads/cam/lifters/ ETC on the 351.

From what i understand all I really need is a oil pan, and a new intake manifold?

I dont mind keeping the stock 351 cubic inchs, but I need some pistons that will support a healthy shot of nitrous, and from what I have heard the stock pistons dont support to much power? isnt there a problem with the rods letting go at 500hp too?

anyway, i have looked into swapping in a 351, just not to deeply...

any help?

I have seen people run 500 plus boost on stock F2TE-AA 351 rods with a good toon. You need to look at headers from hooker, and your flywheel 28oz 157 tooth/harmonic balancer 28oz just look at Summit Mustang 95 351w and it will come up with every thing you need including the oil pan. Make sure your heads have the 1/2 head bolt holes or get them tapped.

I am building a 351 for my 95 gt. I have GT40P heads from a 302 that I just had the holes bored for 1/2 bolts $75. I got every thing els from Summit. The only thing I need is the length of the F2TE-AA rods that I am using so I cam get the right pistons.

forgot about the flywheel, that sucks! because I just got this one resurfaced! haha.

I Have seen the 351 swap kits, they seem really over priced?

Iron heads off an exploder for a 351W build... cmon

Hooker only makes shorty headers for 351W SN95's, the only company that makes longtubes are Bassani... (free for $1100).

I researched this in depth and decided to go with a 302 based engine, mostly because EVERYTHING needs to be changed on an SN to make it work, it isnt a "simple" swap like on a Fox. i have better things to do with my money than waste it all to get slightly more hp AND also gain ~100lbs on the front end...

anyways, back in reality land...

you will need:
351W headers
oil pan (get one from a Crown Vic if you want a cheap one)
intake (your Typhoon has a 351W lower you can buy)
distributor (351W has a lager hole than a 302)
28oz balancer and flywheel
pushrods
brackets for the front accesories
new oil pump and pickup
and a few other things im sure

and is an extra ~100+ lbs really worth it?

oh, congrats on the kid, had mine last dec, its a chore man...

BTW i almost forgot, unless you get an F4TE block (^^^^ this guy WTF is he talking about F2TE????) youll need to get retrofit hyd roller lifters. the F4TE is the only 351W block that was set up from the factory to accept hyd roller lifters and the spider/dogbones. retrofit lifters are major $$$$$$$

and to Kozz167, the factory length of ANY 9.5" 351W con rod is 5.956"...

thanks for the tips man, I made a list today of just some quick prices. this is what I cam up with:

351w cost

-pistons
140-240 depending on compression and valve relief.

-oil pan
Summit Racing 08-0058 - Summit Racing® Oil Pan Pro Packs

canton pan PN 15-670; pickup sold separately under PN 15-671

Moroso 7-quart oil pan (PN 20520) with a built-in wind-age tray and scraper that fits '81-'97 Mustangs, '81-'88 T-birds, and '81-'86 Capris (pickup sold separately under PN 24514).

-oil pump see oil pan

-headers
BBK Performance 15690 - BBK Mustang 351W Swap Headers $500
use current?

-flywheel
ford racing $260
Ram steel $250
rebalance current?

-balancer
cheap ford $60
ford racing M-6316-C351 $250
SFI $190
spacer M-8510-B351 $30

-cowl hood
$500

-motormount
to drop motor
PN E7ZZ-6038-E $90

-waterpump
edlebrock $160

-intake manifold
resuse upper, buy professinal products 54127 351w lower $185
New trickflow racing R intake $600-800

-powersteering bracket
M-8511-A351 $65

-Distributor
ford E7TZ-12127-D or MSD $200
junkyard also

max cost : 3220

minimum : 1550

so that range's from new pistons to things I will need. and different prices for things.

so minimum I need $1550 just to get the motor in the car, not including the cost of rebuilding the 351........

so I guess im rebuilding my 302, as im sure I can do it for about $400 total, haha. I'm broke man.

this kiddo is defiantly a challenge. you have 9 months of thinking how you can do it, and how its gonna be, and its NOTHING like you thought it would be, haha

you got that right. i had NO clue what we were in for, then our kid ended up having all kinds of health issues (long story short he's blind and has a VERY rare (35 males in the WORLD) genetic brain malformation/defect).

but i wouldnt trade a moment of it for anything, and i cant wait for the day he helps me crank my 331 over for the first time

and the best part is no matter how bad my day is all i have to do is see him smile at me and its all worth it/better

did you guys have a girl or a boy?
