300hp is basically a stock engine rebuild. Just remember, the "P" heads have a different spark plug angle so make sure to get matching headers or you'll have problems!!

yes its lots easier just to use the iron gt`s the p heads suck just becasue of that reason there practically the same heads just one uses different headers!

yes a stock .030 357 cu in with stock heads can roll out those numbers, would be worth the extra dollars for a roller cam install too.

2 ways to do it get a retro fit kit and have the machine shop drill and tap the lifter valley or buy the link bar lifters.

you can have a DD with more power than what u want for next to nothing with the 351, depending on what its going in!!

The P heads suck, yup. If you only want a 300hp build then just pull the current heads and have them rebuilt and port and polish them, or save for a nice set of 2.02 heads. You can find them anywhere used for cheap.

Go to comp cams web site it has a program to help with picking a cam for what you need.

Just use a flat tappet cam. The linked lifters come with a hefty price tag. If you use the GT40's on a 351 you will basically have a 95 Lightning longblock. They only produced 240hp. The extra cubes just upped the torque number to the 340's.

that was all in the cam tho...

keep in mind the 95 Cobra R used an IDENTICAL set up, just with a hyd roller instead of a hyd flat cam and made 300hp...

OO yea, I didn't think about that one. But it had different cam, different intake, and a different tune.

actually, the specs on the cam are a little smaller for the Cobra R, but its a long proven fact that a hyd roller will make more power than a hyd flat cam, even with a sizeable "disadvantage" in specs.

IIRC, the lowers are the same (351W GT40) but the uppers are similar (both tuned for idle - 5500-6000 ish)

but yes, the lightning used speed density instead of MAF.

BUT... it did have the twin 50mm TB set up... lol.
