Default 4.0 Fuel Injectors

I just have a quick question that im sure has an easy answer. What is available as far as injector upgrades? I was looking under the hood today just looking around and I took a gander at my injectors, man are they small!! My uncle has an 89 IROC Camaro with a vette motor and the many times ive worked on it for him, Ive seen his injectors and they are big around as a 50 cent coin. Mine are as big around as a crayola marker...lol I am aware of the fact that he has a 5.7 V8 and mine is a 4.0 V6, hence he has huge injectors. BUT! There HAS to be some sort of Gain by going with bigger injectors on the 4.0, as the ones on it look anemic to me.... but I could be wrong. Anyone got any input on that?

not always outer diameter u can go by. U can upgrade to a 39# injector if u wanted, obviously would require a retune. or 42# with a pigtail.

yeh the fuel injector rating is at max flow assuming u are on WOT...so yeh you oculd do no mods and only 39# but of course need a tune, and u would never get up to 39 lbs/hr. so they are not needed

I am not far from getting an XCAL 2 with the bamachips tunes from bamachips.com. How much of a gain might i see from 39# injectors? I guess I am just old fashioned in my mechanic ways, the combination for winning in the old days was MORE air + MORE fuel = MORE HP
We can do alot with CAI's and air filters to add more air, i just have this wild idea to add more fuel I guess.. lol. I think your car looks really nice Fazm, I tried to include a picture of mine but everytime I try to upload a pic, MF says "Error storing to disk" Maybe its just the fact that I am using an Apple Mac Computer with OS X on it. i dunno.... Anyways, Id like to get bigger injectors, but not if its only like 5hp gain or something. Thanks again...

well just a CAI is no reason for adding bigger injectors. youll be fine with stockers for a CAI but with F/I its a diff story, and the F/I kits usually come with injectors just the right size for tha application.

as these guys are saying, you will gain NO power with larger injectors on a stock or mildly modified engine. your computer adds more fuel for the amount of air being sucked into the engine and simply stated you cannot max out the ones you have... if you were maxxing them out, you would know it, as your car would sputter and run extremely lean...

even i, spraying nitrous, have no use for larger injectors until i move past a 125 shot... and at that point i believe a larger fuel pump will be required as well.. so you have quite a ways to go before your injectors become an issue for ya

the camaro with the 350, the vette, the transam, and the firebird all shared the same motor.. whether stated its a vette motor or not is irrelavent..

sory for sound like an ***, but im just knit-picking.. too many people around here say the same kinda thing, and it really annoys me

anyone on to topic. with more air , you will need more fuel.. but our stock injectors can supply enough fuel as long as we dont go forced induced

now as for the size, it doesnt matter.. diesel injectors used to be HUGE.. now take a look at duramax injectors (gm's diesel) they are as small as gas injectors.. technology has come a long way.. and when it comes to the injectors, the shape and designe of the orfice is what matters

Well, what i mean is that he spent many clumps of dollars to a shop here to put an LS1 into a car that origianly had the Tuned Port 5.7. You are right in that the LS1 is the same whether its in a vette, camaro, or firebird. But I do believe the vette had a better intake setup, and exhaust, for even more HP. This is the setup he uses, the vette setup, not the camaro or firebird one, the camaro and firebirds in 2002 had like 320HP, the vette had more. But anyhow, I hate those cars, rattle traps!!! Especially on dirt roads with wash boards!!! like the one I live on in the country!!! But yeah, I wont mess with the injectors then, I can use that money on something else. Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it!!
