Default SCT Unlocking Fee?

Need a little help. Bought a locked SCT X3 Power Flash
unit along with some other goodies from a guy who
sold his Mustang, actually traded it in. He did not return
it to stock (car and X3) before getting rid of the car.
So, I'm faced with paying $150 to SCT to unlock the unit.
I also contacted Bamachips and they told me the same
before I can load a 3 tune file, they would charge $150
to unlock it. Anybody know of any place that would unlock
it cheaper? If not, I guess I'll sell the unit as-is and buy
a package from Bamachips.
Thanks,
Bob T.
Tried and failed to find the above Mustang.

Thanks to all responses. Yes, I figured as much.
Can't blame a guy for asking. They're just protecting
their technology from misuse, I can understand that.
Gotta make that decision whether to unlock this unit
or buy a new one. Not much difference in price. Every
penny counts these days, though.
Thanks,
Bob T.

If it is the XCal 2, all the guy needs to do is unlock his car and bring it to a local SCT dealer to unlock all the way.

If it is th XCal 3, you are screwed, I already tried doing that. Only SCT can unlock it, sorry.

Wow thats really dumb. I understand they dont want misuse, but $150 is a bit steep if you ask me.
When I first learned about tuners I always wondered why everyone doesn't share... now I understand. :P

I'm assuming there is no "hacks" online you can download to unlock them??

Also do you know where he traded his car in? Go take it for a "Test-Drive" and return it to stock Then it will cost you $0.00.

Hey Max,
Yeah, I did contact the dealer. The car is long gone, was
traded in last summer. Dealer was hesitant to give out info
but said "it went to an auction". Basically they were telling
me to get lost. Anyway, I'm going to put it out there on
Craigslist and ebay and see what it will bring, take the money
and put it towards a new unit. One of the tuners, VMP or one
other, offers tradeins. Just want to recover my costs. Anyway,
through this research, I'm finding out the early X3's had many
problems. I think this unit is a later one, though.
Thanks,
Bob T.
