Default MAC is too much...

Ha,
I swapped out my stock single muffler for a MAC single today...
You know, there is show and and then there is go, and this is !!!!SOUND!!!!

Its just too loud, idle does sound so good, but just driving around today, its too much for me. I think they tuned this thing for idle... I am waiting on some bolts from Bob Utter parts and I will put on my GT sways, so I'll be back under there to change it out. I could've gotten GT muffs for $29, sometimes I'm an idiot.... now I don't know what to put on there, but I can't see me keeping this thing installed...

There will probably be a MAC single for cheap in the parts sections in a few weeks....lol....live and learn..

You think that's bad, try dual MACS. The drone will make your brain bleed

Glad I can still read so I can have a laugh, I've lost my hearing temporarily,...hehe.

I guess I can stack this up to gaining 'experience'.. I did drive the car to work today just to give a listen (lol) again and figure it out if I will really swap it. Its Yes, when I can get back in the garage again.. There are times it really does sound good, but there is the 2000-2500 or so RPM range when you are accelerating that is too loud and annoying. I really don't know how to describe it, but it depends on the gear too. If I could remove that part it would stay on.

I'm going to 'experiment' with a takeoff next, maybe that will be a happy 'medium' for me, could have saved some cash it works out. Now I know that listening to nice sound clips never tells the whole story (volume!!).....

Don't feel bad, most of us have gone through some experimenting and learning by trial and error with mufflers.

A GT takeoff, especially the manual transmission one, has a moderately nicer sound than stock. It's a solid safe choice.

Thanks TV, I really didn't think the thing could be that loud, but WOW.

I've been driving the beater all week to work to avoid morning headaches..lol..
I've got an ebay set of GT muffs coming and my swar bar hardware (rear nuts/bolts) just came from Bob Utter today (that's another story) so when the GT mufflers arrive I'll do both the muffler swap and GT sways and then I should be back on the road.
Hehe, now this is funny, with a pair of GT mufflers coming, I could be found on various sites pricing out dual conversion kits...
I just wish some one made an easy to install valance for the duals on these bumpers instead of the cut it yourself plan.. I know there are templates, but when you have trouble cutting straight lines, arcs can be a problem too!!! But I am starting to get the dual exhaust 'want its now'... Where is odyssey - I was following his "not going to mod much plan"...

LOL, I know excatly what you mean, I installed a MAC on my sixxer a buddy gave me, LOVE the start up and idle but the drone on the highway never drops out, was thinking of taking off within the first few days but then gave it a couple of weeks, it got cold so I then didnt want to crawl under the car so they stayed on a bit longer, now Im either def or have gotten somewhat used to them, we'll see what Spring brings around......

So are the Macs like the MRTs??? I have tried:

Dual MRTs and they sounded great,
Dual GTAs, alittle too quiet but sound good'
Dual Magnapacks which sound pretty good but still not as loud as I want or as the MRTs.

Dual Shelby KR Mufflers to go soon so I can see (not sure how loud it will be)

I have an xpipe and thats all.....curious to hear the MACs if anyone has any videos. Thanks.

the macs are not like the MRT's.....Mac's are chambered and as far as I know the MRT's are not...I could be wrong..lol
they sound pretty different imho.

MRT's will be your loudest option......unless you go stingers......or straight pipes

well yeah I know, my friend has them on her gt but ofcourse they sound sweet on a v8, just meant in terms of sound comparison if they were louder or close to the the mrts.

Not a big fan of MRTs since I blew the first set apart.......well maybe not, more like their design, a hanger ripped right off and left hole in my muffler. Found a used new looking set online and bought it, had the old ones welded better by a pro and sold them.

Dude, I just put on some MAC LTs, pro chamber and dual exhaust and it is so damn loud I can't stand it. I'm gonna give it a little time to see if it gets better but I'm already thinking of maybe some GT take offs to replace the MAC mufflers. It also makes a really annoying loud sound if the transmission has to downshift (yea it's an auto) when accelerating. It's horrible!! But it did make 20whp by itself with no tune.
