Default Performance Chips-are they worth it?

Morning all...recently purchased a 2006 V6 and my buddy tells me a should get a performance chip for my car to give it a little extra giddy up. Not being very tech savy Im looking for some feedback on whether or not this is worth getting. Ive checked on Ebay and they seem very inexpensive but wonder if its some kind gimmick. Any comments are greatly appreciated, cheers...

Go for an SCT tuner from www.americanmuscle.com and if you can swing it buy a cold air intake with it that requires a tune.

Seems like we answer this same question everyday...

No. Chips sold on ebay are less then worthless. If you wanted a programmer, get a SCT or Diablo. But the canned tunes that come with it usually suck really bad, so be another $50 to $75 for a good solid email tune from BBR, American Muscle, ect ect.

Chips are for eating.

Go to the Brenspeed and AM websites and check out their CAI & custom tune combos. Those are the biggest bang-for-the-buck short of FI. It's all in the custom tune.

Programmer tool (Tuner) w/ "CUSTOM TUNES"

if you can't afford one now, do your best to save until you can afford one. YOU WILL NOT regret it!

if you got the bucks, get the combo package that includes an oversized CAI

Thanks for the info Redfire...I was originally going to make my first upgrade to dual magnaflow exhaust but its sounds like maybe the tuner and CAI may be the way to go. As mentioned earlier Im not very Tech savy so what exactly does the tuner do? Does it reprogram the cars computer to make it run and perform more efficiently? Thanks again for your help...Darryl

Welcome to the club!

If someone tells you that you should buy those eBay chips, try to sell the, Tornado Fuel Savers, muffler bearings, and electronic superchargers
