1) at what mileage should i get a transmission fluid change?
2) when i start my car the rpm's rev up in-between 2-3 rpm for about five to ten seconds and then goes back to normal. it sounds like im pressing the gas even though im not. this also happens sometimes when i am driving, put the car in neutral and am slowing down to stop. any idea why thats happening and if i should do anything about it?
thanks for the help!
fyi: i have an '06 v6 manual

Unless you're really beating on the tranny, then I'd stick with the above.
The cold idle speeds that you're describing are normal for a cold start. Is this your first car? The dozen or so carbureted cars that I've had plus the half dozen with fuel injection all have a high idles on cold start. If yours DIDN'T kick down after a little bit, THEN I'd be concerned.

Yep, its the open loop to closed loop transition you are waiting for.
100K on the tranny unless you are just a itchin to a change it.
Go with a good synthetic designed for manual trannys that come
OEM with AutoMatic tranny fluid in them.
Royal Purple Synchromesh is one that comes to mind...
btw, the capacity is 2.8 Quarts.
1/2 inch below the fill hole is your goal to the proper amount.

or did the fluid just coincide with the fluid change?
Maybe a link to that Amsoil ATF that you used?
Maybe a part # or something?
Did ya get it at the local parts store or online somewhere?
There seems to be 3 different kinds of Amsoil ATF...
Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid Product Code: ATFQT-EA
Synthetic Fuel Efficient Automatic Transmission Fluid Product Code: ATLQT-EA
Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid 5W-30 Product Code: MTFQT-EA
Which one did you use and how did you pick that kind?

My transmission had never once ground untill I put in Royal Purple. After a few days, I would get a terrible grind going into third gear. Switched it out ASAP for a stock fluid and it was alright, still ground every few days but not with almost every shift. Switched to Amsoil, and the grind now only occurs every few weeks.
My transmission was fine untill I put RP in it. the fact my tranny had never ground and then started to grind viciously with almost every shift a few days after putting RP in is pretty conclusive to me. Especially in a NA V6 with 20k miles. Amsoil has minimized the impact of the problem RP caused.
