wanting a tuner, what tunes..
so, id like to buy a tuner for my 06 v6. ive heard that the auto really benefits from a tuner. now i saw on their site not to run 93 all the time, but i was wondering what tunes i should get. i can get 93 here anywhere. ive heard even the 87 tunes are a good power boost. should i get some 87 tune and a 93? anyone run 93 race all the time?

You can get different tunes for different octanes, 87 and 93. If you do though, just make sure to NOT downgrade. For example, if you have your 87 tune in the car, it's fine to run 87 or 93 but if you have your 93 octane tune on the car, do NOT put 87 in the tank.
I run a 93 octane tune 100% of the time in my 06 GT but I also look to squeeze each horsepower out of it I can.

I ran the AM Bama 91 race for a couple weeks in my auto.
At wot it barked 2nd and chirped 3rd.
It's an awesome straight line wot tune. It's appropriately named.
As a DD, no thanks. Shifting characteristics were to harsh for me.
This is just my .02 cents and you may like it as a DD, some folks do.

When you purchase a new tuner, you should have the choice of 3 custom tunes. I ordered the 87, 89 and 93. It all depends on what octane is available in your area. I have tried all 3 custom tunes and they are all safe. I would say between the 87 custom tune and the 93 custom tune, there is about 7-10 more HP. I can definitely feel a difference in performance and throttle response! I've been driving my 93 custom tune for awhile now and haven't experienced any issues. I passed my emissions test too!

I always recommend including the 87 custom tune in your choices. I used to travel with the Stang a lot and had more than 1 occasion where I couldn't find anything besides 87 in the middle of no where. 2 minutes with the tuner (keep it in the car, btw) and I was back in business.

Best "mod" you can invest in. Most bang for the buck. My 05 is a manual trans however I previously owned an 04 with the 3.9 and an auto trans. I had an SCT for that as well as the car I now own. Both procured from Justin at VMP.
The three tunes he includes are 87 economy, 87 performance and 93 performance.
Effectively, that gives you four options (including STOCK). I recall the shift point changes as being very dramatically IMPROVED on my 04 regardless of which tune I chose. The stock shifting on the 04's was VERY ... well.... "tame" I suppose would be the best way to describe it.
I don't know about the automatic version of the S197 V6 when set up for 93 Octane... but I know that the change in mine when thusly tuned is VERY noticable. Butt-Dyno be damned.... it becomes quite a beast.
All good info here... and yeah, make sure you have an 87 Octane performance tune included. It's my "go-to" tune 95% of the time... especially with current fuel prices.
I never thought I would see the day... when the difference between the price of regular and high test would be what I paid per gallon when I first learned to drive...

got it today! love it of course. its the only mod i have, as im not sure the direction i wanna go with the car. even with 87, i seemed to have noticed a difference. maybe it was just the difference in the trans shifting, which i love. definitely gets into gear better! once this batch of 87 runs out, im putting in some 93!
