Default P0191 in conjunction with PO193

Hello all,

My girlfriends car stalled died driving home, momentarily. After sitting a few minutes, it started right up and drove home.

I hooked up my code reader and am getting PO193 as a fault code and PO191 as a pending code.

I have looked up some of the basic information on these and am considering replacing the FRPS. The car has 120k+ miles and likely has the original, so I am considering replacing it in general since they have a high failure rate with this vehicle. I replaced the fuel filter about 8k miles ago.

Is there anything I can confirm or rule out by knowing that the DTC's are P0191 and P0193 in conjunction with one another? The most likely cause for either is that FRPS, so I'm wondering if those codes being together means anything to me before I replace it.

Thanks in advance.

Replace it with a Ford part. Make sure the vacuum line going to it has no leaks.

10-4. That's what I did. I always use Motorcraft only (with my 10th gen, F-150).

So far so good...

Well it ran perfect for several days... but here is my new problem...

The belt started making a ton of noise. Upon inspection of the belt, and the tensioner, I can see that it is slipping off of the bottom crankshaft pulley and unto the rubber.

The bottom pulley is out of alignment with the others, and as soon as you start the vehicle, it slips on to what I believe is the harmonic balance. I visually inspected and see that this is extremely new as the belt has not been making noise and there is no visible damage underneath to the sensor.

It looks like it will need replacement of the crankshaft pulley and/Harmonic balancer, since they are out of alignment.

Does that sound correct?

That is a fairly common problem on the 4.0. It isn't "out of alignment" - it is separating and the pulley and balancer are no longer attached. so it moves and slips.

So yes, replace the pulley/balancer

The angle I have makes it seem like the puller is closer to the engine than the other pulleys as opposed to the other direction, so I didn't piece together that the rubber was separating. Is there a rubber on the front and the back?

Also, if it is a common problem on these cars, does anyone know how much ford charges to take care of this? I am bouncing the idea back and forth of whether to do it myself or send it in. I've never sent this car in before, I've handled everything up to this point but it seems easy to mess up.

I 've done mine and my boy's Mustang did the same. The harmonic balancer(crank pulley is bad. DO NOT drive it. The pulley has slipped rearward off the rubber insulator.

Probably a minimum of 600 bucks at Ford dealership,I'd hazard to guess.I'm sure they've done a ton of them.

Yeah you nailed it, $275 for the Harmonic balancer from Motorcraft, 50 for the belt, $600 out the door after tax and labor. Not too bad in all honesty.

The next time it happens, I'll give it a shot changing it myself. Let's hope it lasts another 120k.
