Default 3650 and my problem..

sometimes my 3650 doesnt slide through gears as smooth as i feel it should. i have my mgw short throw installed its nice. whats next is should i fix the syncros? because it feels like theres something in the way sometimes through 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. If anyone is familiar with this let me know..

I have the same problem (I have the T45). There is a TSB on the 3650 for it. Supposedly new synchros will remedy your problem. Also, do you notice if it only does it when it is cold? I know mine does....

putting a clutch really wont help the problem that you have, I too have the same problems in my 3650, and bottom line is that the synchros ae junk. Ford has a TSB on this, you can do some research on the subject and possibly coax ford into fixing it for you. If Ford wants to replace the whole tranny, I would be hesitant because a lot of people on here have had it replaced rather than fixed and they run into the same problem. Id make sure that they installed the better synchros in your existing tranny. I have yet to go to ford about this, but I will...hope this helps....

How many years does this defect effect. My '04 is a B**CH to shift when it is cold, especially with the short throw TRI-AX. My wife's '01 Bullitt shifts like butter, and that's an early 3650 and she has 5K less miles than me. (Maybe I'll send her to Florida for a weekend with the girlies and swap trannies) He, He!

Oh, the 3650 problem. I had mine rebuilt undet the TSB. Picked the car up from the dealership and immediately returned and told them it was worse. It started to knock in second under a load and the shifting was not any better. They tried again, and it only got worse. They contacted an Engineer at Ford and they told the dealer that the knock could be a side effect of the rebuild. Long and the short of it is they have had the car since the second week of November. I had it for one week over Christmas to install my new springs. It is currently awaiting a new 3650 being shipped from Ford. I am just hope I will have it back by summer! My wife, who did not want me to buy the car in the first place, walks out in the garage on a daily basis and says, "where is the mustang? Oh ya, it has been broke for four months!" I finally hung a picture out in the garage so I can tell her it is there. Good luck!

3650 is garbage, clutch is garbage, throw-out-bearing is garbage, the work and parts that ford puts into them is also garbage. they will never fix the problem, they will fix your tranny then 20,000 miles later it happens agian. just gatta live with the ****ty 3650.

My T45 hasn't exactly been a picnic so far either.. I bought the car with 50k miles and it just recently started giving me trouble.... UGG. I knew I should have bought a Camaro!
