it's a tough question with no definite answer, I have no idea what your mods are or what exhaust you have on there. Each combination will respond differently to headers. For headers to make a difference they need to get the exhaust freely from the cylinders (impacted by valve size and cam) and they have to be able to send it to an exhaust with little backpressure (impacted by pipe size, shape, and mufflers).

Someone should correct me if I'm wrong but the idea behind upgrading the exhaust is to minimize the restrictions.

The guilty parties in the stock arrangement would be the catalytic converters and the mufflers. I believe this is why the cat-back upgrade and mid-pipe upgrades are usually done first. By doing the headers first, you are just getting more exhaust to the bottlenecks quicker!

Sound might change but I doubt it. There may be limited gains too but I doubt it will be noticeable.

Considering the cost or install effort of headers (shop vs. DIY respectively) I think it would make more sense to do the cat-back system and mid-pipe first.

My 2¢

This is the way it will be normally.. you will see a gain with either midpipe/catback or longtube headers... but the gain you see won't be nearly as much unless you have both from either mod... make sense??

I've looked into exhaust. Here's what I found out. If you're gonna do it, do it all the first time. Go for LT's, o/r mid pipe, and cat back. X-pipe will give you the most power, but people go with H because it has a deeper sound. Headers wouldn't be worth the money unless you open up the rest of the exhaust too. $1200-1300 if you install yourself and get the cheaper stuff. (BBK, etc) SLP, Hooker, and brands like that will run you upwards of 2 g's by the time you get finished.

Shortys... probably not really going to feel a whole lot
LT's.. you have to get a new midpipe anyways with them..

Go with full exhaust. If you just get the headers its a waste of money until you get the rest of the exhaust opened up. I know my sig. says I just have mufflers. I went the cheap way until I save the money for full exhaust. I'm a college student, and don't have a lot of money.

+1

It would do you no good at all to swap out for shorties if your not swapping everything.. They are an improvement over stock, but with stock cats and mufflers your nulling them out completely.

And long tubes wont bolt up if you dont get a new mid pipe like he said.
