Default Scheduled Maintenance

ok...so my car is at the ford dealership getting a tsb on the 3650 taken care of. my car just turned 36,000 miles and got out of the warranty...i got the tsb just before. and when i went there they said i was due for a bunch of regular maintenance. this includes an air/fuel induction service, a new fuel filter, a power steering flush, and a brake fluid flush. the total for all this work came to just under $400. i am not very mechanically inclined so i could not do it myself..my dad doesnt like me to work on my car either...he thinks ill screw something up lol.

sooo...opinions...should i get it done? should i not? should i get it done somewhere else/would the costs be cheaper somewhere else? they have my car overnight for the tsb cuz they hafta drop the transmission and stuff...even tho that couldve been done in easily 1 day of work. but yea...i need to call them in the morning and let them know if i want it done. thank you for opinions/advice.

if you're car is out of warranty, i wouldn't take it back to the dealer (unless it's for a recall or tsb). they jack their prices. take it to a decent shop that knows what they're doing. it should be cheaper

Get a Haynes or Chilton shop manual and start doing simple things, all the things you mention fall into that category, and do some of your own maintenance. At least you can use the pictures and instructions to learn about what work you are having done. It's surprising how fast a less than honest shop will change their ways when they think you know what you're talking about.

take it to a local no-brand name mechanic. the smaller ones always generally give lower prices so customers can keep coming back to them., its the only way those places have money to stay in business

yup.... there are a few independent shops by me that are very inexpensive and very honest, and when I have to throw in the towell on a project I go to them.

I also work at an independent shop that does a lot of good work and we have a lot of regular customers.

Those three things you can do, and the brake flush would require a friend to help. All simple work, wouldn't be a bad idea to learn how to do it.

Why would you need a power steering system flush and a brake system flush? Waste of money imo.
