Default Headers

I have heard that if I want to put Headers on my 02 GT (or any 99-04) I gotta lift the motor out to get the exhaust manifolds off. Please anyone who has put headers on their car (not had someone do it for them) let me know if this is true. I believe I read an article in 5.0 about it and they said you had to lift the engine out to, just a bit. I am hoping the answer in no, cuz if I have to lift the engine out I don't hink I am gonna get headers then.

You don't really take it "Out' so much as you just take off the 2 nuts holding it down to the motor mounts and then lift it a bit. You only lift it a little, so you don't have to unhook everything or the trans or anything.

theres a lot of controversy about the shortys and longtubes, but most ppl will say the longtubes are better. I do believe you will need to buy a midpipe that fits whatever headers you get.

Go long tubes. You have to lift you engine out about 5- 6 inches on the passenger side. It's a pain. Make sure if you go long tubes that you don't have emmision testing. You won't pass. From what I read on the post, shorties are a waste, but most brands will pass emmisions.

Seems like everyone is telling you to do it yourself. I don't think I would ever have the persistance to do a job like putting in headers, even if I had the tools or the ability to be without my DD. I guess I will never learn unless I try it but I would rather pay someone than screw it up myself :/

If you are not good with a wrench, I would get them installed. I read an install article and it sounds like one hell of a time.

Long tubes will give you much more power than shorties but are a pain in the butt to install. I'll go with the shorties as they hook up well to the stock exhaust and aftermarket parts. No additional modifying required.
