What do you think???
I got a 96 GT. The motor has high mileage but doesn't burn oil or smoke and still pulls strong. The drivetrain is as good as any used car I have ever owned. I want to start getting my car the way I want it.So, here is my idea for the buildup over the next year.
1. Build the suspension. What would be the point of building a monster motor and not being able to handle the HP or torque or to the pavement??
What are your suggestions for building a suspension for straightline racing?
2. Buildup the rearend first. Should I get a 9" rearend built or stick with 8.8" rearend?
3. Transmission would be next. I plan on getting a TKO 500 tranny.
4. Build me a motor. I want to build me the motor just like what is in the Project Mongoose99 http://www.corral.net/index.php?cate...2_articleid=27
What do ya'll think of this plan?

1. Eh, I haven't looked into it, it's not top on my list yet, I want streetable power, keeping the stock suspension is almost necessary for around here, if I were to sacrifice any ride quality my car would literally shake apart because the roads are so horrible. It's already beginning to take its toll, all the little metal fasteners are starting to rattle and squeak.
2. 8.8" rear with 31 spline axles will do for quite a bit of power. Maybe even more splines. I don't know if you have enough clearance under there to comfortably fit a 9" rear... yes it's only .2" bigger, but I think your 8.8" will do.
3. TKO 500 or 600 are good. T-56 will do in a pinch.
4. It seems like a decent build-up but don't bash the stock heads. P&P them and you're looking at just as good of flow for less. Torque is what matters and they only picked up 50 ft/lbs, not THAT amazing for the cost of the work and parts. Stroke your 4.6 and get some cams, P&P the heads and you'll end up with more than they did for less. While you're stroking it, throw a forged crank, rods, and pistons in there. That'll cover it.

RE: What do you think???
sounds like something along the lines as I want with my 97. I live in reality so I'm only doing what the car needs, and a smidge more. ::sigh:: I'm just glad I have a car, let alone a mustang GT

i think it's gonna take you longer than a year. unless you have thousands and thousands of dollars saved up already
