lifting my engine
as my dream car turned nightmare car project continues, i now need to lift my engine to do my oil pan and rear main gaskets.got the rear main dropped but removed (ergh). The trans is out, and I need to lift this thing from the top. Where are good lift points and do you have any reccomendations for doing this. The gaskets were leaky as heck so I have to replace them. I'm almost there.

RE: lifting my engine
i can get the hoist... someone has to know where they have lifted it without disassembling anything... I was thinking hanging some chains down to the exhaust manifolds

RE: lifting my engine
Ive never done it with a 4.6, but with my dads old 289 and numerous 350's out of dirt track cars, we always take the intake mani off and just use a plate. If bolts into the holes in the block, but I dont know what to tell you buddy. Would you consider taking of the intake? You could prolly go to autozone and get a lift plate(I have no idea what its called) and just hook the hoist up to that.

RE: lifting my engine
honestly at this point I DO NOT want to take off the itnake manifold. It's one of those "Not broke dont' fix it" type situations and it is not leaking at the moment.
I have seen in some alldata pictures there are those lift plates you describe that bolt to the valve covers. I should invest in a set of those and I should be ready to rock... oye
