MIL on and off... Again
Alright guys,
I posted about a week and 1/2 ago, saying that my MIL light came on, then 2 days after I posted it went off for about a good week, but just yesterday it came back on again. So I was like here we go again.
So I took it up to the guy who did the job, and he took his computer "MAC Tools" and turned the light off. He told me that he turned the "computer" off and that the light should come back on in like 2-3 weeks. Would he be able to just shut off my sensors with that "tool" of his? I don't really understand what he meant when he said he shut the computer off, I thought he disabled the sensors for me, but then he said it was the computer and that it would come back in 2 weeks. Can someone explain that? And why wouldn't he just turn off the sensors completely for me so I didnt have to worry about those damn MILs?
Also I know this is debated, but he told me the MIL light has absolutely no effect on the car whatsoever, because its only the sensors? True or what?!?! I keep hearing mixed things. I can smell the gas though, which I know I will because there is no cats, but I didn't know it was going to be this bad? I smell gas when I turn off the car big time, but its not "running rich". No smoke or nothing coming out the pipes, so I guuess that is normal for not having any cats.
Let me know guys, I wanna setting this.

Well thats what he did. He told my both sensors failed due to the cats not being there. So basically my MILs aren't picking up.
I told him I was going to check them out one of these days and get under the car, but until then he "shut off" my computer? And the MIL light went off, so I thought he shut off the sensors, but apparently not? Thats what I don't understand. You think he has the ability to just shut them off for me with that computer he has? Its like a tuner.
I mean he hooked up the computer and turned the MIL light off. But he said it would come back on in 2-3 weeks, which I don't understand. If he shut it off, why would it come back on?

Yea your right, thats probably what he did.
When it comes back on, you think its worth asking him if he can just turn them off? I mean its not a performance shop, its just a garage basically, he knows what hes doing with performance, but he doesn't do it everyday. But he has the computer/tuner, the MAC Tools thing.
You think he could/would do it? Is it illegal for them to do it or something or do your absolutely need a performance tuner to shut off the sensors?

I have never seen a factory type scan tool like the one you describe have the ability to disable 02 sensors. Those scanners only monitor everything and test stuff. I've used the GM tech 2 and a bunch of snapon scanners.
I believe you will need a performance tuner to completely turn them off.

Damn thats not what I wanted to hear, lol. Well Ill fool around with the MILs underneath when I get some time, and hopefully they will start catching when the MIL comes back on.
yeah, it would be nice of those scanners would be able to turn stuff off, but that wouldn't be appropriate in the eyes of the company.
I have heard that MILS work good when they are hooked up right and never let um touch the exhaust

Yea I don't think my installer did the MILs right. He did a great job with the exhaust, but I don't think he bothered with the MILs, just threw em in there.
If I get under there and take the MILs off until the light comes back on, and then install them correctly (disable battery, and tie them away) it should pick up then right? Or is it basically hit or miss the first time? Like Im asking, can I correct this if I take them out, start over, and install them the "right" way? Or since they were installed incorrectly the first time am I screwed already?
