Default input on wheel specifications

Hey everyone, I'm new to the wheel thing. I have stock 245/45/17" wheels. I hear you guys saying '9" and 10" ' tires, but what are you referring to?

This summer I am going to be buying a set of wheels and tires for my car. I do not plan on getting anything radical either, this is my DD that may see the track once. I do think the rear wheels seem to be "set in" from the body, and I don't want spacers, so I figure I could go with a 1" wider wheel and accomplish the look and get a wider tire.

Anyone have some input let me know, my car is also lowered about 2" with sportline springs

the 9" and 10" ur referring to are the actual width of the rims.. the wider the rims, the wider tires you can have on them. personally i have not heard of anything wider than 10.5" that will be able to fit on a stang.

okay thanks guys. I figure I'll stick with the 8s up front and just get a new set of wheels and tires there, and upgrade to 9" wide on the back to give my car's a$$ a more complete look.

what tires to you guys reccomend for DD? Right now I have BF goodrich comp T/As (came with the car) and the backs are wearing thin and the front ones are wearing on an angle (getting C&C soon too)

I highly recommend going with a 10.5 on back. If you dont, you will wish you had. I have 9's on the back of mine and i wish i had 10.5.

I'm in the same boat as you...new to tires and such but shopping for them...I've found some Sumitomo's and Kuhmo's on tirerack.com for less than $100 each
I'm just looking for summer tires and need something reliable for summer and I'm kind of shocked that I've found these tires that are less than $100 a piece and seem to be good tires....you may wanna check those out perhaps

Sumitomo's suck.

Get some 17x8's up front and 17x10.5's in the back.

245s and 315s
