How much HP check engine reduces?

Retards the timing, adds more fuel...WHAT.
Never heard of such a thing. The engine light has nothing to do with that nonsense.
MEANWHILE THE PROBLEM THAT SET THE LIGHT OFF, could be causing lack of power, depending on what it is!
Most of the time if it's an EVAP(emissions) code or a high/ low voltage will not affect HP.
If you have a faultty fuel injector or 0-2 sensor it may enrich the mixture to make up for what's lost
Or if you have bad plugs or coil pack or wires it may retard the timing.
BUT TO JUST SAY HEY..YOUR ENGINE LIGHT IS ON...OUR CAR IS RUNNING RICH AND TIMING IS ADVANCED! nope

With out an OBD-I/II programmer, you have no idea what the heck is going on.
