i've always heard in a proper maintained engine the timing chains don't go bad that soon. their biggest killer is lack of lubrication.

it's timing belts that you really have to worry about

I have to agree. The timing chains in the 4.6 will last forever as long as they are properly lubed. I know many people with 4.6 Tbirds with original timing way past the 200k mile mark.
The timing chain is not really a maintenance item. I wouldn't worry about.

I have done 5 timing chain jobs
2 mustang GT 1996-98
2 Ford Probes 1995-96
1 Mark VIII 1995
Not One..Not one took more than 3.5 hours. Although I'm a maniac.
I never stop for any breaks, mabe for a sip of beer, but not even to ****.

Boys, figure about 300K miles, there are NYC cabs running around with 4.6 SOHC engines with 500K miles, yes, no BS, 500K miles!
And I'm sure your vehicle is maintained better than theirs. Find a Chevy running around with that kind of miles if you can.

I have roughly 150k on mine, and counting.. Although I think it's a bit stretched, since I think it's chattering.. Not good...

I thought the newer 4.6's were Non-Interferent...

dude you are fine. Just keep up on your oil changes and don't beat on it when it's cold and it will last you a long time. may burn some oil (stupid valve seals) just like mine... but it'll keep runnin like a champ.
