what does the traction lock actually do?

RE: what does the traction lock actually do?
tunring the traction control button off in the dash inside the car lets your tires spin without the car taking over the cutting power to the axle. i think this is unlocking the rear differential? but that might nto be right.

so, let me understand this better....i read somewhere on this forum that starting in 84 Mustangs were made with Limited Slip Differentials...not sure what that does...explanation would help...
some time later, traction control was introduced....which is when a wheel starts to slip...the motor stops spinning it...or it locks up....while the other continues to spin....so this is good to control sliding...so...I assume that if you turned off the traction lock (control) that both tires would continue to spin and the motor would not try to stop them from spinning even if they are slipping?

traction control uses the abs sensors to figure out if you are losing traction and will automatically retard the motor until you regain traction.
the traction lok is a mechanical device which is part of your rear differential.

am i actually reading this nonsense...RedAss is right. Two different things.
Your motor retards it's timing when you try to spin your tires to regain traction.
Trac-loc distributes power evenly to both sides, or to one side if the other loses traction.
Read a book on this shhstuff before you look stupid.
