What DB level is considered legal? How much can you exceed the legal limit with out getting pulled over all the time?

Decibel level...I think he's refering to exhaust. It all depends on the cop.

It stand for decibel. Its a measure that measures how loud your car is out of the exhaust. I believe cops have them installed in their car.

if you don't hammer it around cops, you are usually ok
with higher gearing i bet you cant get around the law as easily...especially on the freeway.

I don't think cops have any sound measuring devices in their cars

it's probably all in their judgement. if they have a stupid db meter in their car, they are wasting your taxes.

also, how strict they are depends a lot on where you live.

Cops dont have decibel meters in their cars. But the rule of thumb that I got from a cop about stereos is if you can hear it over 50 feet its too loud. As for exhaust I think that you probably want to stay under the 100dB mark. Youll notice, especailly at night, how freakin loud your car is. I had a '79 that set off car alarms like mad. I once started it on the roof of a 10 story parking structure and set off a car alarm on the ground floor, the guy at the booth was laughing and told me I set it off as soon as I started my car.
