Default TAnnY PRobleMS

I bought my mustang about 2 years ago it was used and ever since i have been strugglin with the tranny. At first the problem would only show up whenever i would dowshift from 3rd to 2nd but now i also have this problem from 1st to 2nd. It's this nasty grinding sound......... what would be an economical way to fix it

Sounds like the syncros are out.

You can either yank it and have it fixed or replace it. I went thru 2 t45 before I decided enough was enough and stepped up to the TKO

my 97 did the same thing. the cure was rebuilding it with new synchronisers.

mind didn't need replacing till i got the car at over 100k. you take care of them: good fluid, proper changes, they will last a long time. don't beat the **** out of it either

you are lookin at at least $1000 to have it done. I did 90% of the job myself, cost me a lil under 500

mine as well get a new one. A new replacement tranny for your car, the t-45 will cost about 1100-1200. If your planning on having the car a loong time, maybe getting a better tranny would be in your interest.

also, how does your tranny do shifting into reverse. Mine was rebuilt 1000 miles ago and still grinds sometimes in normal driving, but i think alot of guys have that problem.

yeah mine's got 1300 on the rebuild and it grinds reverse sometimes. it's the nature of the gear.

Here is a trick.. waita bout 5 seconds while holding clutch down then shift into reverse. I betchu it won't grind.

Honestly if I had the money I'd have gotten a TKO or a beefier trans, but doing most of the rebuild myself cost me drastically less. Now keep in mind I am studying to be a master tech so I WANTED to get my hands dirty and WANTED a mess of parts haha

yeah i do the same thing with the 5 or so seconds, gives time for the gears to stop spinning. But when theres people behind you or in a hurry or something or on uneven ground, itll pretty much grind a little everytime.
