H-PIPE/HEADERS HELP NEEDED!
Hey guys,
I want to install an h-pipe on my 99 gt and currently i have flowmaster catback exhaust and the rest of the exhaust is stock. i want to install an h-pipe with no cats, and i need to know everything i am going to need to purchase so it all goes smooth. i have emission testing so i need to pass the plug-in crap. i've heard about MIL eliminators but i have no clue what they are. Also, what pipe is the best to get(most bang for the buck) and if i get headers in the near future, what should i purchase(long or short)...if i plan on getting long, should i just save my money to get the longtubes and shorter h-pipe? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Unless you've got boost of some sort then shorties are fine, plus on the newer models like yours long tubes a pain to get in. I'd just go with shorties, equal-lenghts, that way you can go ahead and put in your new H now.
thanks for the suggestions guys. i'm going to be doing this myself, so if i purchase the bbk h-pipe, how many mil eliminators do i need and which brand is the best to get? thanks
Just one as far as I know and if you need more than one I'm pretty sure they sell them in pairs dont quote me on that though. I dont even think there are different brands.
hey Nick I went thrugh the same issues.. depending on wich state you are they may or may not do a visual inspection, you have to get the MIL's as soon as you get rid of the cats.. I got STEEDA and they work perfectly, I even pass gas emmisions test with them on!!!! but I was lucky that they didnt do a visual because if they did I would fail and also get in trouble for using non street legal parts.. My advice: Go to inspection first and then get the pipes....
I'd go nothing less than midlength headers. I've the Bassani on mine, & I love them. If you go long tubes...Hooker is my fav., but Kooks makes custom though they are more drag race oriented. BBK makes decent lt's, but I have 'never EVER' been a fan of MAC. If you get lt's, you have have to run a short 'h' pipe which will not fit cat's, but if you don't have a visual, just get some stuff (I forget what it's called, but it guarrentees you will pass emission or ur money back) in a red bottle. You can buy it at any autoparts store, just ask someone there about it. Bang for buck...look at the Mac Prochamber. I lean more towards quality though. I'd go w/the MRT h-pipe if I were you.
If you run midlengths like i did you can actually run cats. I bought the regular size Bassani x-pipe, & fitted the highflow cats no problem. I had to cut about 1.4in of the pipe to make it fit, but then had no problems. When I get some time, I think I am going to get under there again, & remove them & replace them w/the cat-eliminator pipes that came w/the setup to see how I like the O/R sound.
MIL eliminators are used to go in place of your O2 sensors when you run an o/r setup, so that you do not get a "Check Engine" light, & possibly eventual poorer performance out of your car. If you run an o/r setup, you will need them, or get a dynotune. Hope this helps.
