RE: Need help With Headers
Well I have BBKs, which I think are the best bang for the buck, but they will not work with autos.
The 2 I know of off the top of my head that WILL work with your car are either MACs or SLP. Those are 2 of the most popular along with BBK for 5-speeds.
Now I know those are 2 completely different ends of the spectrum, Ceramic MAC LTs are $350 vs. SLP LTs are $750. All I can say is do what you have money for. SLP is going to be a slightly better quality, there headers are SS along with coating.
However, I can say that "I" would never spend that much money for minimal performance gains.
I know I can vouge for Code, because he has told me, he LOVES his MAC LTs and had virtually no problems with them. If that isn't enough to vouge for MAC LTs coming from Mitch, I don't know what is, lol.
Just make sure you get cermaic coated headers... In your case, I would honestly go with MACs, UNLESS you have A LOT of money lying around and want to go with SLP. Just remember if you go with SLP LTs you are stuck with their midpipe too. Not a bad thing at all, they make real real nice products, just that is going to be expensive too. THis is because SLP uses clamping technology whereas every other company uses flanges.
The only problem Code had with his MACs were that he had to dremel the flanges a little for perfect alignment. Other that that get some locking header bolts, GOOD gaskets and your set.
You can install yourself, but its going to take a good amount of time, probably a weekend if you have never done it before. You need to jack up the engine and get under the car. If I could do it again, I might try it myself, but I would probably recommend at least just getting the headers done at the shop, then do the rest yourself or something.
