Does anyone know how to remove the side scoops on a '00? Do they pop out or something or are they more integrated into the body? The shop manual is worthless yet again.

I got a fliipin' dent above my passenger side scoop today and on my way home the stupid black insert fell off as well. The dent is somewhat large in diameter and shallow. I have no idea what hit my car in the lot but it looks like I could pop it out if I could get behind it. Looks like someone kicked it or tried to put their *** through my rear quarter panel. If the side scoop comes off easy, that would do the trick I think.

Also, where can I get the black inserts for the scoop?

If the scoops are easily removable, who makes aftermarket ones to choose from?

I can't seem to find anything in my searches, maybe I'm not using the right term for the part itself.

Yes, the side scoops do pop off, but you have to be careful. They have plastic push plugs that are also attached to the actual plastic scoop. If you just pull on the scoop, you might break the small plastic lip that the push pins attach to the scoop by. Gently pull on one edge of the scoop so you can see the push pin. Just go slow and try to avoid breaking the plastic lips on the scoop. If you happen to break 1 or 2, probably no big deal, but if you break too many, the scoop will not hold solidly back on when reinstalled. Hope this helps. I found this out when I replaced the stock scoops (on 99GT's they were the same as the V6 scoops), with actual GT scoops. Don't know where you can get the inserts, sorry.

 

yeah the should pop off when you pull on them just take your time. 50resto sells the little clips if you break any
