Default Shifter?!?

Well i got a couple hundred bucks and iam lookin to by something new for the stang, i was thinkin performance but i was also thinkin something that can benifit a little in every thing,i thought of a shifter because i heard they help on the wear of the transmision. But i was wondering wat all will it help, ive heard along the lines that it will reduce the wear on your transmision because something about not being jamed so far back into the gear. sorry i know i sound stupid lol can some one help me n let me know wat it all does and how much i will actually benifit from it?

Aftermarket shifters come with adjustable stops that take some of the pressure off the aluminum stops in the 3650 trans. That being said, some people swear by them and some people swear at them.I fall into the former category.Anything that takes some of the pressure off something expensive to replace if it breaks is worth the price of a shifter alone.Aftermarket shifters also make the shifts more accurate and quicker. If it keeps you from missing the third gear shift when it counts, you just got your money's worth.
Steeda,Pro 5.0,and MGW all make good shifters.I have a Pro 5.0 but the MGW has a better range of adjustment in the handle.

Do the short shifter kits I'm seeing in the $200 - $300 price range come with everything for install? Is it something that can be done in a "weekend" garage?... or will it need to be done at a pro-shop? Thanks.

You can install one yourself. Most come with instructions. Shouldn't take you but maybe a couple of hours...
