You shouldn't need either.

Take a look at this website. It gives you a complete walkthrough of the process.

Yep, you definitely don't need them. My guess is that this is just the site trying to sell you additional items and increase their sales.

Since the PI heads flow more...Wouldn't headers only help the situation?

I think we would all agree that the headers will definitely help, but they certainly aren't required to do the swap.

I agree, but Man...You're right there. Headers on these things are a bitch. Might as well do it while you've got it all apart.

I actually wasn't sure if the old headers will bolt up the the PI heads...After reading, I guess they do.

Just do yourself a favor and put headers on it while you've got them off.

your RIGHT they are a bitch there is absolutley no room to get a rachet on the passenger side nuts. BUT i dont have to funds to buy headers right now.......and i dont see how theres room for long tubes...(the headers of my choice).

i might be mistaken but isn't the exhaust port shape different on the PI vs non PI heads? if it is you'll at least need a set of stock 99+ manifolds otherwise your gains will not be nearly as impressive.

The exausht ports on the pi's are just a cycle no speacial shape....but the bore might be bigger i wont know till i get the headers off.......

right on, here are some links that may help you, it seems that the old manifolds will work.

http://www.niagara.com/~gcoit/headswaparticle.htm

http://members.tccoa.com/embalmer/headswap.html

the second one is for a 96-97 thundebird, but its basically the same process.

have some fun this weekend.
