Default Mustang Rebate has me on the verge of buying a GT convertable

Hello to Everyone,

With Fords new rebate on
Mustangs I am seriously considering buying a new 04 GT Convertable

here are the specs

2004 MUSTANG GT CONV DELUXE
4.6L 2V SOHC V-8 ENGINE / AUTO OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION
Ext: DARK SHADOW GREY CLEARCOAT
Int: DARK CHARCOAL
Int Trim Type: CLOTH SPORT BUCKET SEATS

invoice 26,208 I want to pay no more than 500 over invoice.

26708 500 over invoice
800 AUTO OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION
27500 Total

ford -2500 rebate

Total for the car 25,500

Do you guys think this is reasonable and a price I can get the car for ?
What is the over invoice amount people pay on a Stang?

Thanks for your Help!

Sounds good to me. What did your salesman say? That's what matters.

What city/state are you in?

I am in Los Angeles, SoCal

I just test drove the car. I didnt get a chance today to sit down with the salesman.

I know the games they play and wanted to know if anyone knew if the markup over invoice is alot. I know some cars you can get for not much over invoice while others are closer to msrp or in some cases higher.

I know Ford needs to make room for the new models. Hence 2500 rebate.
The Dealer had over 20 Stangs on the lot. Made me think they arent moving too well. They even had to jump start the Stang I test drove. I dont think they are selling too well.

Thinking I can get a good deal.

I want to go back with as much info as possible.

To help you out I will tell you about the deal that I got. It's not quit the same car as I didn't get a vert but it will give you an idea of how desprate the dealers are. What worked for me was pitting two ford dealers against each other. With you being in the LA area you should have no problems finding another car similiar at another dealership.

INVOICE for my car is 24576
Price I Paid 23410
Rebates/tradein -5500 Had an old crappy S-10 for a trade in
Taxes/title/reg +944.39
Total price out the door $18854.39

Also I got pre approved financing through a credit union for 60 months at a rate of 3.49%
Dealer could not come close to the rate. I highly recommend getting pre approved ahead of time. If you dont get a rate as good as mine then you maybe able to talk the dealer down to a better rate then what your pre approval was for. DO NOT mention you are preapproved till after you finalized the price of the car!!!

As far as your invoice price I come up with $26933

25583 base GT deluxe convertable
+725 Automatic trans
+625 Destination Charge
Price of car at invoice is ....26933
Rebate -2500
---------
$24433

I personally will never pay more then 100.00 bucks over invoice for any domestic car. Anything i can get under that is icing on the cake. Just make sure when you are talking figures tell the dealer you want to negotiate the price of the car without rebates/tradein stuff like that.........so in your case you want to negociate off the 26933 figure. It is to easy for the dealer to mess around with the trade in and rebate price and make you think you are getting a good deal when you really aren't.

One last and final tip. If you can wait a month join the American Quarter Horse Association for 30 bucks a year. After being a member for 30 days you are eligable for a $500.00 rebate which CAN be combined with the $2500 rebate for a total of $3,000 rebate.

Hope all this helps.........GOOD LUCK on your purchase!!!!

For 25,000 you could have a brand new 04 Mach 1 with an under rated 310hp.

Some rebates are only obtainable if you finace though the dealer.Which can give you a high APR. So watch out for that.

(example)

You might get the final price. Tell them your financeing elsewhere with an APR that the dealer can't competewith. So they take off the rebate.

If this does happen you could see how much the FINAL price will be with you APR (without rebate). Then see how much the FINAL price will be with their APR(with rebate).(Bring youself a caculater). And whichever is lower go for that one.

The GT/Mach1 rebate is fine even with an outside bank financing you.

Dan is right.........you get the rebate no matter who is financing you............also forgot to mention......make sure you have an idea of what the taxes are for your area.........i have heard of some deallers giving you a good deal and then turning around and charging you 8% tax when the rate is suppose to be 5%...........its shady but it has been done.
