Don't be afraid to get on it a little. To properly break in a motor, it needs to be driven at different speeds and different RPMs. This will help the rings set properly.

14.2 seems to be the average 1/4 time, have seen 13.9s out of a stock one to (I.E almost no gas, no spare stuff like that)

driving it at different speeds is one thing but you dont want to get within 2500 rpms of the red line until you're at least 1000 miles into it. Break it in but dont break it!

Bull.

You can red line her every gear right from the show room floor.

Well it's true.

The only engine part that REQUIRES a break in is your cam shafts. Those take generally 30 minutes of operation to properly break in.

i've heard it go both ways with breakin periods on a new motor. i've heard you didn't have to then someone else said run it with non-synthetic oil for 50miles, then change the oil, run it again for another 500 miles, change the oil to synthetic and drive it like you stole it. the whole time driving, not going over 3000rpm's. personally, if i had spent a bunch of money on a new motor, I would do a breakin period regardless. thats me though.

this is all based on a 0 mile brand new crate motor.

This USED to be true, but it isnt any longer. Older engines used to need the additives that were in regular lubricants to seal the rings. The additives reacted with the compounds used and expanded to the correct size, preventing oil leaks. Thus using synthetic would cause the engine to leak oil.

New engines no longer use this method. It is safe (acutally preferable) to use synthetic right from the start. In fact, most people say if you dont there isnt any point to switching later, although I dont think a few thousand miles would hurt (but it wouldnt help either)

Acually using a regular oil is still the best to use at first. One it is cheaper than a good synthetic oil, you are going to toss it out after a 500miles, the minerals in the regular oil helps scoure the internals, it pentrates the rubber seals and gaskets making them expand.

After a 500miles you can switch over to synthetic oil, run it for a short time 1000-2000miles change it again, oils like royal purple contain a compound that micro polishes the motor internals that should be flushed in a shorter period of time and you should be good to go 4000-7000miles a change after that.

You can drive it like you stole it. Some people feel the added pressure of hard acceleration a decceration of the motor helps the rings seal faster and much better than babying the motor. I personnally don't know about that, but after the first oil change, I was on it, no problems yet and the motor makes good number on the dyno.
