HELP!!
I was driving to school today. It is about 12 miles from my house. Half way there my shifter keeps popping out of gear. I can get it into the gears but then once I lift up on the clutch and press the accelerator it just pops right out and then if I try to put it back in it grinds. I dont know waht happended for half of the trip it was fine then just all of a sudden is started doing this. Also its only the bottom 3 gears that dont work. My first, third, and fifth I can shift into fine works perfect. But now I cant even get into my second, fourth, and reverse because it will just grind when I try. When the car is off I can move through the gears freely with no problem. Does anybody know waht could be wrong? Is it the linkage bar?
Well im not sure about this but my friend had a 1999 ford F250 powerstroke and it was doing the exact same thing and he replaced the slave cylinder. Do you have a hydraulic or cable controlled clutch? That may be the problem.
Figured out what was wrong. Somehow the bottom stop bolt moved up and was restricting me from getting into all the bottom gears. Now I have a question again how do I stop it from doing that again?
I'm going to bump this message up because I'm having a similar problem.
I've owned my '02 GT for 2 months now and it still has warranty until Dec. 2005. I was in 4th gear coming off an on-ramp and at 3700 RPM I went to shift into 5th but there was no 5th gear. Somehow the gear got blocked or something like that. I then discovered that I was not able to get any of my (up?) gears.... (at that speed I didn't try 1st, but I couldn't get 3rd or 5th). Being totally baffled, I got off the freeway and once I slowed down and jumped in and out of 2nd and 4th gear, all of a sudden 3rd and 5th were working again.
What bothers me about this is that I took the car into Ford to have it looked at under warranty. Ford service technicians told me they were unable to find anything wrong... they even called some Ford technical hotline to see if anyone else had reported a problem like this before, but there were no records. In the end, Ford adjusted my clutch to some standard ( that I can't remember at the moment ) and sent me on my way. Things seemed good, but then this morning again I was driving to work and punched it to get around some slow traffic in the fast lane. I was in 4th and tried to get the 5th gear.... nothing! The same damn wall that I felt the first time. Then, without having to really slow down much, I dropped it back into 4th and tried 3rd gear. 3rd was working, so then I went 4th to 5th and everything worked fine. Some of you might think I'm just missing the gear when I'm shifting but that is not the case. I've become well aware on how the car shifts and there was definitely something wrong.
Anyone got any ideas about this? I'm rather annoyed that Ford technicians are unable to find anything... the last thing I want to happen is my warranty run out then all of a sudden a major problem develops. My appologies for the extremely long post, but I wanted to make sure I explained my situation with enough detail. The car is in great shape.... 27,000kms on the odometer. Thanks in advance.
