Default STARTER.... HELP.

So everything was working fine.. replaced the clutch, put everything back together.. starter is making a bad squeal on start up.. Possibly the teeth arent exactly aligned with the flywheel.. Im getting sick of this, Ive tried everything except shimming it.. Im about to go take it to a shop and pay a crapload to get it fixed.. any suggestions first??

take it off, and hook it right to 12 volt and spin the starter itself up and see what you get! The 4.6s don't have shims so it may be a bum starter that happened to take a crap at a bad moment

well, then it's probably in your starter. What kind of sound, is it a gear clashing or more of a whiney sound?

Because on the inside of this starter it's a gear reduction starter, so you have one gear rotating on 3 little gears around it which all spin inside one circular gear.

This is what makes the small starter handle a V8. I took mine down and cleaned/re lubricated the internals and it works smooth.

I think you need a starter, as there is no way to shim these.

unfortunately that's what you'll need to do. I have a feeling your starter just took a crap at a bad moment... this kinda thing does happen and I have had it happen to me, my U joints went out right when i reinstalled the trans so I thought I fukked something up
