Alright.. So my starter was making a horrible whiney noise on start-up after I replaced my clutch.. I used the stock flywheel and starter, I just had the flywheel resurfaced.. I figured the starter was going bad so i went and bought a new starter.. IT STILL DOES IT!!!

This is my question..

On a 98 gt.. Is there 2 or 3 bolts on the starter???

 

There is 3,and the one on the top that is a bitch to get at.

 

+1. I hate the top bolt. Now with headers, it's almost impossible to actually get to it. The whining noise may be the wires rubbing againist each other. I'm to sure, so don't quote me. Do you have all three bolts on?

 

I don't think he does, he probably wouldn't have asked how many there were. Sounds like he ended up with an extra bolt laying around somewhere. That sucks. And yeah the top one is a big bitch.

 

Actually when I took it off there was only 2 in it.. Who knows about the third, But im gonna put it in tonight and see if it makes it go away... hopefully it does, I havent been able to drive me car for 2 weeks because of this.. and I have a new clutch and about 50 extra hp that I need to make love with...

 

Yeah, when I put my clutch in, it took me about 7 days on and off. I feel your pain there. Try to a top bolt in and let us know if the noise is still there or not.

It is still making the noise... So i thought I will try shimming it.. I shimmed the starter and it made it worse.. Im about to die.
