Default Burning Oil

My Dad has a 00 Gt Vert with 70k on it. It has a 93 octane tune, CAI, Throttle body, Off road pipes, UDP. He just put synthetic oil in it and it started burinig oil. It has never burned any before. It goes to low in about 1000 miles. Did the synthentic oil do this? Will it fix it to go back to regular? Need some help on this! Thanks.

The synthetic oil didn't cause the burning, it simply showed you an existing problem.

I've run synthetic oil in my '03 and '93 Explorer from the start and neither use any substantial amount of oil in 12k miles (less than 1/4 quart). The '03 has 47k miles, and the Explorer has about 15k on a new engine (prev owner blew up the old one...drove with a CEL for 3 years[sm=boosign.gif]).

Is there a way to fix it? or does he just have to check it regularly and add more when neded? What causes it to burn?

Fix it? Yeah, rebuild the engine. Cause? The engine is worn...probably the rings, but could also be the valve seals.

But with only 70k miles on it, I would not think the engine should be burning oil like that already. Any estimate on cost of rebuild?

I have heard that synthetic oil in a older motor ran on dyno oil can cause crud to bust loose and make seals leak.Is it burnig oil or leaking it.I would stay with dyno oil on a motor with that milege, plus now if it leaks you aint paying 6.00 a qt for synth oil, hope you solve the prob.................Gary99gt

synthetic oil is more likely to burn than regular because it's slipperier

mine burns it like crazy with regular
