Default What do heads do?

So lately ive been comtemplating whether or not to buy stage 1 cams. after talking to a friend who got a quote at the local performance shop he said its like $700 for cam install and probably $800-$1000 for cam/head install. So if im gonna do cams more then likely im gonna do heads too. Couple of questions.

What do heads do?
How much rwhp with heads/cams?
What makes them better then stock?
Does $800-$1000 sound reasonable for heads/cams install?
SHOULD i get valve springs (i know its not necessary)?

If your gonna port the heads, you should get some stage 2 cams. Change the springs of course. Thats alot of money man, why not just get some juice??

I ahev heard ported heads will give you an increase of 40-50hp. With my setup I could probably see 340-370hp at the crank. Yes you need valve springs with any aftermarket cam with .550" lift.

not legal to have hooked up around here and dont feel like hooking it up / unhooking it at the track

stage 2 cams without forged block = more or less useless

Nitrous is 50 state legal, all you have to unhook is line at the bottle and your set.

ya but i live in a small town where street racing is big and they caught like 72 people at once racing and everyone that had the stuff hooked up on the engine got a ticket for that even if the line wasnt hooked up. cops here are really **** and stuff. plus im not a big fan of juice prob cuz i dont know how it works.

i would but looking at it it looks to be very spensive. now looking at this more...if im gonna spend $2,000+ on heads/cams i might as well go for stage 2 crap.

anyone know how much it is to forge a block?
