Well some Navigators had DOHC heads. Not sure if the heads are really interchangable though. I do know that those heads are expensive out of the *** and you would have to change more than the heads... Wiring harness, timing covers, timing chains. There is a ton more involved than just swapping heads.

well im not to worried about the wiring harness because i dont have one for the sohc i basically have the short block so im just wondering if it is worth it in the power area... why would the heads not be interchangable there are dohc and sohc heads not blocks or is there anyone have anything to add

I'm not sure on the interchangability... the 5.4 as you know is just a 4.6 with a taller deck height... the longer stroke makes up the extra displacement. Both the 5.4 and the 4.6 are modular designs... so the heads probably will fit... it'll be VERY close if not perfect. As a note, the 2v heads barely flow enough for a 4.6... let alone the 5.4. The 4v heads are going to cost you a bit more though.

It is possible on the 4.6 don't know about the 5.4 but you have to cange alot of stuff out to make it work and from what i've read its a pain in the a$$ and cheaper just to buy the DOHC.
