headers nightmare!!
hey guys, i installed bbk ceramic shorties 2 weeks ago. took longer than expected to state it lightly. with the assistance of a friend, who said he had done the install before and used factory studs, we finished on the second day. in a garage on jack stands. we had to cut one stud to seat the header on the copper gasket. after the first start, i had a leak on the passenger side. parked it for a week and priced the fix through ford for $824. found a certified mechanic to fix the leak for $220, with a change of hardware. the leak was fixed and it sounds good. my question to all is: with after market headers, when you accelerate does anyone hear the valves chattering much more than before? the mechanic told me not to mistake the chattering for a leak. it sounds good but i wanted some experience from others. any input would be appreciated.
bbk headers= $400
install= free
fix a header leak= $220
drive your mustang after parked for a week= $priceless$
thanks

well, my friend had a 94 GT with headers (i believe they were long tubes) and when he accelerated there was a clicking noise. He had 3.73 gears too (pointless info maybe but w.e). He said he had an exhaust leak though. Yeah, that clicking prolly was the leak
it was my last bolt-on before engine internals(cams, pistons, etc.) or supercharger. had to do it. if i had to do it over again, i would pay for the install and watch, instead of gaining all the experience and still having a leak.
I had a slight leak on one of my headers, passenger side. I even paid to have them installed. It sounded like a piece of paper flapping in the wind. When I would accelerate I would hear it and when I would let off I would not. Not a big deal but I paid to have them installed and the noise got on my nerves.
