i knoww that ive brought this up a whole bunch of times but i blew an engine and thought i needed a whole new one...but i dont now im just looking for a new 4.6 small block.. any ideas ???

Might as well do it the right way and order a forged shortblock if ur gonna be shelling out the dough anyway.

im in the same boat i blew the motor anyways i think im gona keep the stock crank they say its good to about 700 horse just gona throw in some forged rods and pistons and crank up the boost i have alot of parts to buy for my car this winter so im going the cheap way out on the shortblock it should be able to handle the power

No chance the stock cast crank is gonna make 700 horse.

Most I have seen is in the 500 range, but that was even pushing it (matter of time).

it says in my sean hyland book it will handle 500 horse adequately in that range anything higher should go forged but i have heard 700 horse before

If you buy a crate engine you get a warranty. most cost an arm and a leg but just another thing to think about.

the stock crack is strong i guarantee you will not break it and if you have the money to make enough power to snap it your stupid for not using a forged crank, im building a short block on a budget and a forged crank isnt in my plans, several shops i am buying my parts from know im shootin for 550+ hp and agree it will hold up no problem, plus you can build two aluminum shortblocks yourself for the price of buying one with a very limited warranty
