Wierd idling
Ok, I have a 96 GT 4.6L. No mods, yet.
This past weekend I took the intake off to clean all the crap buildup off. I didn't take the intake manifold off. I did, however, take the injectors/rail assembly off because I noticed the seals were cracked and I replaced the rubber seals. While I was doing this, the plastic caps broke off from being so brittle. I do plan on replacing them with 25lb injectors. However, my wierd problem is, when the motor is warmed up and in park/neutral, it idles at 700rpm. Normal. But, when I put it in Drive or Reverse, it jumps the rpms up to about 1k. I've done some hard excelerations thinkin it needed to get some stuff blown out or what not, didn't work. Sometimes, when I come to a stop (after I've been driving for awhile), while I have my foot on the break, the rpms will drop to about 800. I have to hold my foot down pretty hard or pop into neutral to keep from moving.
Oh, and also, when I was taking the fuel rail assem off on the drivers side, I pulled on the wire harness a bit too hard (cuz it just "jumped" free from the intake) and pulled the contacts slightly up into the boot on the alternator plug. It took me a little while to track that problem down. However, I did drive it to Discount Auto, which is about 10miles away, running off the battery, not the Alt.
Anyone have any ideas what could cause this? Could having the alt not being plugged in cause the computer to go haywire? Think I should reset the computer? If so, do I just unplug the battery for awhile, and how long, or do I have to do some kind of reset to the system?

RE: Wierd idling
Thanks, it's runs a hell of a lot better now. I don't have quite the performance I used to when I first got it, but that'll probly come back when I put the new injectors in that spray properly. Which, that'll probly be in another 2 weeks with my next pay check. Anyone know where I can get a good price on some 25lb injectors? Locally, I can get a set of 8 for around $400.
