99 4.6 dohc, smokes when i start it, smokes from 5000 rpm and up and a little ticking sound in the top of the motor. maybe a CAM OR LIFTER?? 78,000 miles. hopefully not the rings.

black, like its burning oil. the heads were just off of it (shadetree mechanic) and i dont really know if they knew what they were doing.

If its burning oil then its white smoke, black smoke is usually un used fuel

right, when you open the oil filler cap i can get smoke there.

Why were the heads off? If mods were done, was it properly tuned? Are all your coils plugged in? How are the wires? Check the plugs...

i just bought the car but they said it got hot and warped the heads i checked the pretty much everything that i could think ofwithout going into the motor.
