Default 5spd Gas saving

New to a 5spd, just got it saturday but im doing pretty good...just wondering, what are avg shifting rpm speeds for the most gas mileage. Trying to get used to it without lugging it too much but also trying to keep it under 3k when i shift

Thats what I try to do. Daily driving, just short shift, keep it really low, and minimize jack rabbit starts everytime. I know its tempting to gun it at every light or stop sign, but i guess it helps out not to stomp on it.

When I'm just cruising around I usually shift around 2000. It's nearly grandma driving but it does wonders for gas mileage. The 4.6's really start to eat up gallons when they're getting consistently over 2500-3k RPMs. If you don't mind being "the slow guy" on the highway (I drive over 60mi on the highway every day and being the ******* has gotten old, except on weekends [8D]), you can cruise at 60mph turning just about 1600rpm. That's about 30mpg right there.

Also, whenever you're coming into a stop, don't downshift, just put it in neutral and brake. A: You save a little gas from revving up the RPMs, B: Brake parts are much cheaper and easier to fix than transmission parts.

I shift around 2000-2200 RPM... it's not entirely about the RPM though, the other half of it is how much throttle you're giving it... I only give it enough so that if it were to be in neutral it wouldn't go much over 2800 RPM... very little throttle, results in really slow acceleration but it's good for gas.

Wow you guys suck. First to about 1700 then to 3rd. Once I reach 1700 again I go into 5th. Until I get up to about 40+ the car doesn't accelerate much but it does wonders on gas. At least 19+ all city and that's with periodical spirited driving.

I skip shift sometimes too, never that low though. I usually bring it up to about 2200. When I skip that low like 1700 it'll drop to like 600 rpm and I'll bog bog bog bog bog bog bog, and basically not move.

Nothing like cruising around in a neighborhood at 25 in 5th. People that ride with me are usually looking at me like how the hell does the car pull that
