Default O/R X PIPES

Hey, I'm just wondering how soo many people on here have off road x pipes. How do you all get away with it? I live in chicago and go through emissions. Also, around my area they will look for cats if it's very loud.

I have to pass emissions too, but only every 2 years, so all I do is swap the stock H-pipe in to smog it, then bring it home and swap the X-pipe back in. It only takes a couple hours to do. Around here the cops aren't worried too much about the noise, I guess unless a car is so horridly loud it shatters windows when it goes by. I've driven by many cops and have never been hassled.

hey one bad gt,
I live in crete, you probly know where that is...30 miles south of chi town. Our emissions are only every 2 years also. And like usa said, you could just swap them out when the time comes.
Or...you could do it the way i did w/ my 88 gt. Everyone knows that emissions testing is just a big hoax to create jobs in our area so basically the people that work there don't give two sh*ts. I slipped them a 20 when the time came and they sent me on my way. I was running headers > no-cats> flows on my 88 gt. Good Luck

In AZ its every six years for smog check on late model cars and trucks...no need to worry anyway, as they just plug in to the black box and check the O2 levels, and such, if you have a good tuner, without cats your engine should pass.

I live in NH. They check for cats, before you get an inspection sticker. Well, i have an inepction licence. So, that takes care of that. I had a older 5.0, that i took the cats out and put in an x-pipe and then i welded the cats over the x-pipe so it looked like i had cats. lol. Worked great.

here in chicago you have to take it to the cities testing station. They hook it up to a dyno and then put tubes on your exhaust pipes and drive like up to 60 a couple times. The computer the tells you if you passed or not then your sheet is printed and given to you.
