Check Engine Light, please help
Hello Everyone,
I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a 96 GT with about 150,000 miles on it. The check engine light has been going on and off since 30,000 miles. I took it to a couple different shops and no one has been able to diognose it properly. The car always ran ok so I never worried about it. I tried taking out the fuse for the check engine light but the smog machine knew, so it failed. Now I need to get the car smogged ASAP so I am trying to get to the bottom of the check engine light.
The smog machine gave me a print out with a code of the reason the check engine light is on. It is P1443. I took this to Auto Zone and was told that it was the Evaporative Emmisions Control System. They didn't have those parts in stock so I went to the ford dealership. I was told there was 2 main components to that system; the charcoal canister, and the canister purge regulator valve. He said the regulator valve has been known to be faulty so I bought and installed that. The check engine light stayed off for a few days, so I figured I had the problem fixed, but then it came back on and I didn't have a chance to get it smogged yet.
My car always had a slight idle problem. Nothing major, never below 500 or above 1000 RPMS. I was reading a lot how the IAC valves are a big problem with these years, so yesterday I bought a new one. When I installed it, it seemed to make it worse??? I have been driving it for two days and the car hasn't seemed to adjust to the new part.
I just rented a OBD2 and scanned it and I am getting 2 codes. P1443 and P0443. I'm not sure what to do from here. Any thoughts?
